CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATION

India’s Civil Services Examination (CSE), conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), is one of the most prestigious and competitive examinations in the country. It is the gateway to top administrative positions in the Indian government. The CSE consists of three stages:

  1. Preliminary Examination (Prelims): This is an objective-type examination that tests candidates on subjects like General Studies and Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT). It serves as a screening test to shortlist candidates for the next stage.
  2. Main Examination (Mains): The Mains examination is a comprehensive written examination that assesses candidates on a wide range of subjects, including General Studies, an Optional Subject, and Essay Writing.
  3. Interview (Personality Test): Candidates who clear the Mains examination are called for an interview where a panel assesses their personality, communication skills, and suitability for civil services.

Successful candidates in the CSE are appointed to various prestigious civil services, including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and Indian Foreign Service (IFS), among others. It is considered a challenging yet rewarding examination that opens doors to leadership roles in the Indian government.
